The students completing their Intermediate / HSSC from Pakistan are concerned on the Level of course that they should opt for. The below information may help such students, their parents and teachers / counselors understand the UK education system at Undergraduate level.
There are 3 ways to enter a 3 year Undergraduate Degree after your intermediate. Please check below the routes and IELTS checks:
1. Entry through 1+2 year i.e., the International Year 1 which is a Level 4 Program. Such programs have SELT QUALIFICATION requirement which mean ONLY UKVI IELTS or UKVI PTE IS ACCEPTABLE.
In this route you get 8 to 9 month duration visa with 0 or 10hrs/week work allowance. In some cases visa is extended while you are in the UK, however, in some cases you have to come back to your home country to get the visa extended for another 2 years. Most of the students are naive at this stage and they are unfamiliar with such tricky matters. Thus, we recommend that students must ask their consultant / counselor while applying for such programs as students and parents may get a shock when they come to know about this when the students have reached the UK and started their studies. Even if so, there’s nothing to worry about. Students can still manage to get the visa if they come back to their home country.
2. Entry through 3 year International Year 1 which is a Level 6 Program. Such programs have NON SELT QUALIFICATION requirement which mean UKVI IELTS, Normal IELTS (Academic), UKVI PTE, NORMAL PTE ARE ACCEPTABLE. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS LIKE CAIE ENGLISH, PVT AND DUOLINGO CAN BE ACCEPTED depending upon University.
In this route you get 3 year duration visa with 20 hrs/week work allowance
3. Entry through 3 year Direct Bachelor’s which is a Level 6 Programme. Such programs have NON SELT QUALIFICATION requirement which means UKVI IELTS, Normal IELTS (Academic), UKVI PTE, NORMAL PTE ARE ACCEPTABLE. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS LIKE CAIE ENGLISH, PVT AND DUOLINGO CAN BE ACCEPTED depending upon the University.
In this route you get 3 year duration visa with 20hrs/week work allowance
You should understand that in the worst scenarios (when a student’s marks are less than 55%) a foundation course can be considered but take into consideration 2 important factors that you save if you go for a direct 3 year Bachelor’s route.
1) Time: You save complete one year which you can invest in your Masters. 2) Money: You save 1 Complete Year Tuition fee and Living cost which again can be invested for Masters.
